Betr Entertainment, the ASX-listed wagering small cap chaired by high-profile bookmaking identity Matt Tripp, has been weighing a bid for the Australian arm of Entain, the London-listed giant that operates the popular Ladbrokes and Neds brands, people briefed on the matter said.
Tripp, who made his name running Sportsbet before selling out to Ireland’s Paddy Power for $338 million in 2011, met with Entain executives in London earlier this month. At those meetings, Tripp and Betr chief executive Andrew Menz floated the idea of carving out Entain’s Australian and New Zealand operations, which also has a partnership with TAB NZ.
