TotalEnergies (TTE) said Monday the first CO2 volumes were transported from Heidelberg Materials' Brevik cement plant to Northern Lights' Oygarden facilities, then injected 2,600 meters below the seabed off western Norway, in partnership with Equinor (EQNR) and Shell (SHEL).

Northern Lights is the world's first merchant CO2 transport and storage project, with an initial capacity of 1.5 million tons annually already fully booked by customers in Norway and continental Europe, the company said.

A second phase approved in March will expand storage capacity to over 5 million tons per year from 2028.

Customers include Hafslund Celsio and Heidelberg Materials in Norway, Yara in the Netherlands, Orsted in Denmark, and Stockholm Exergi in Sweden, TotalEnergies said.
