CVR Energy Inc. has announced an update regarding its subsidiary, Wynnewood Refining Company, LLC (WRC), following a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has affirmed the validity of previous grants of small refinery hardship relief for WRC under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for the 2017 and 2018 compliance periods. Additionally, 100 percent waivers have been granted for WRC's 2019 and 2021 compliance periods, while 50 percent waivers have been granted for the 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024 compliance periods. As a result of this decision, WRC estimates a significant reduction in its renewable fuel credit obligations, potentially exceeding 300 million Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) for the 2020 through 2024 compliance periods. Furthermore, WRC may recover previously retired RINs, potentially reducing its obligations by over 100 million RINs for earlier periods. CVR Energy is currently evaluating the implications of this decision on WRC and its own financial statements.
