U.S. VEU Removal Could Bode Well for Chinese Semiconductor Supply Chain -- Market Talk

0329 GMT - The U.S's cancellation of validated-end user status for Chinese units of some global chip makers could bode well for Chinese memory chip makers and its supply chain, Citi analysts say in a research note. These subsidiaries would need export licenses to buy U.S.-controlled equipment, making their capacity expansion and technology upgrades more difficult, the analyst say. This could benefit Chinese memory chip makers Yangtze Memory Technologies and ChangXin Memory Technologies, they note. Chinese semiconductor equipment vendors, including ASMPT and Shanghai Wanye Enterprises, could win more orders from Chinese memory makers, they say. "Similar to China's recent directives to increase localization of AI chips, we believe Chinese authorities may capitalize on this opportunity to set a localization target for memory chips as well," they add.
