US trade panel receives patent request to block liquid crystal display imports

WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. International Trade Commission said on Wednesday it has received a trade complaint seeking to block imports of liquid crystal displays used in televisions and other devices that allegedly violate a U.S. company's patent.

The complaint, filed by BH Innovations LLC, alleges violations by major television producers including China's TCL 1070.HK and Hisense 60060.SZ, South Korea's LG Electronics 066570.HK and U.S.-based Vizio Holding.

The complaint alleges the imported displays violate Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930.

The commission, in a Federal Register notice, invited interested parties and government agencies to file comments on public interest issues raised by the complaint within the next eight days after publication of the notice.

"Comments should address whether issuance of the relief specifically requested by the complainant in this investigation would affect the public health and welfare in the United States, competitive conditions in the United States economy, the production of like or directly competitive articles in the United States, or United States consumers," the commission said in the filing.

The commission also asked for comments on whether the BH Innovations, its licensees or any third party suppliers have the capacity to replace the volume of articles potentially subject to the blocking of the respondent firms' imports "within a commercially reasonable time."
