VirTra Inc., a company specializing in law enforcement training simulators, has announced the launch of an Autism Awareness Curriculum in collaboration with the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC). The curriculum is designed to provide police officers with specialized training to recognize and appropriately respond to individuals with autism. This initiative was introduced following a 2017 incident in Arizona involving a 14-year-old boy with autism and aims to prevent similar occurrences by equipping officers with practical tools and immersive training experiences. The training includes video walkthroughs featuring real individuals with autism and insights from SARRC CEO Daniel Openden. VirTra's program seeks to enhance officer interactions with individuals on the autism spectrum, promoting safety and understanding.
