Contemporary Amperex Technology or CATL (SHE:300750, HKG:3750) is adjusting its 7.3 billion euros Hungary plant to produce multiple types of batteries, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing CATL's general manager for Europe, Matt Shen.

According to the report, the Debrecen facility, due to begin mass production by late 2025 or early 2026, will make not only ternary lithium-ion cells but also lithium iron phosphate and sodium-ion variants.

The plant is expected to reach 40 gigawatt-hours of annual capacity in its first phase, eventually expanding to 100 GWh, enough to power more than 1 million cars, Bloomberg said.

Shen said CATL has spent tens of millions of euros to cut water and power use and is complying with regulations, the news agency noted.

The company has hired about 800 workers, more than 500 local, and aims to expand staff to as many as 9,000, he added.
