Tractor Supply Limits Price Hikes to Non-Staple Items -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
09/11

1247 ET - Tractor Supply is aiming to keep its tariff-related price increases limited to items that customers only buy once or twice, while maintaining steady prices for essential staples, Chief Merchandising Executive Seth Estep says at a Piper Sandler conference. Tariff costs are starting to flow through to sticker prices in the third and fourth quarters, Estep says. So far, consumers have had a minimal reaction to the price increases, he says. Tractor Supply is using pricing data and analysis to measure shoppers' response to price hikes. It is focusing on raising prices on items that customers purchase infrequently and don't know exactly what the items typically cost. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
