Space42 and Viasat, Inc. have announced their intent to form Equatys, a jointly owned entity designed to enable global Direct-to-Device (D2D) services and transition existing Mobile Satellite Services $(MSS)$ to a 5G network environment. This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2025. The venture aims to create a unique infrastructure company model that combines terrestrial networks with satellite efficiency, thus facilitating universal connectivity. Equatys will leverage a 3GPP Non-Terrestrial Network compliant platform to extend service to billions of people and devices globally. A commercial rollout is targeted within three years.
