Webtoon Shares Bounce Back Near IPO Price with Disney's Backing

Shares of Webtoon Entertainment are climbing close to their IPO price after Disney said it was preparing to take a 2% stake in the online-comics company.

The stock rose 36% to $20.40 in the morning trading session. Shares debuted at $21 in June 2024 and tumbled as low as $6.75 in April before bouncing back over the last month.

Disney said after Monday's closing bell that it has signed a non-binding term sheet to acquire a 2% equity interest in Webtoon. The companies have also reached an agreement for Webtoon to build a new digital-comics platform to house all of Disney's various comics brands.

The deals are an expansion of a team-up Disney announced a month ago to put nearly 100 classic comics and new online series on Webtoon's online-comic platform.
