Melbana Energy (ASX:MAY) said drilling of the Amistad-2 production well in Block 9 production sharing contract, Cuba, began on Thursday, with the well planned to be drilled to a total depth of 1,125 meters measured depth, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.

The unit 1A formation will be logged en route, but it will not be tested. A 650-meter measured depth section of the Unit 1B formation will be drilled to intersect a series of natural fracture systems identified from a seismic survey.
