The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down in late-morning trading as the Federal Reserve's rate-setting committee commenced its consequential two-day meeting Tuesday.

In company news, a New York state judge on Tuesday dismissed two terrorism-related counts against Luigi Mangione over the December 2024 killing of Brian Thompson, a UnitedHealth Group (UNH) executive, according to media reports. Mangione remains charged with second-degree murder, according to the reports. UnitedHealth shares were down 1.5% near noon.

The US Food and Drug Administration issued a warning letter to Hims & Hers Health (HIMS) on Sept. 9 stating that claims on its website about its compounded semaglutide product are false or misleading. The letter was made available to the public on Tuesday. Shares of Hims were down 7.5%.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday it is opening a preliminary investigation into the door handles on certain Tesla (TSLA) Model Y vehicles, according to media reports. Tesla shares were up 2.3%.

President Donald Trump said Monday he filed a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against the New York Times (NYT), alleging the newspaper made false false allegations against him, his family, his business and the US. Shares of the New York Times were down 3%.

Walt Disney (DIS), Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Comcast's (CMCSA) Universal jointly sued Chinese AI company MiniMax in federal court Tuesday for allegedly stealing their intellectual property to build its video-generating service Hailuo AI, according to media reports. Disney shares were down 0.6%, while those of Warner Bros. and Comcast were down 9.3% and 1.2%, respectively.
