Qantas Airways Ltd. has expanded its fleet with the launch of its first two next-generation Airbus A321XLR aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the airline's ongoing fleet renewal program. The aircraft, named 'Great Ocean Road' and 'Outback Way,' operated their inaugural commercial flights between Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Qantas is the first airline in the Asia Pacific to fly the A321XLR and the fourth globally. The new A321XLRs offer a wider and longer cabin, increased seat capacity, larger windows, and enhanced baggage space compared to the Boeing 737-800s they replace. The aircraft also deliver improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. Qantas plans to expand its A321XLR fleet to seven by June 2026, with a total of 48 aircraft on order. The new planes will support both domestic and international routes, including destinations in Southeast Asia, as part of Qantas' largest-ever fleet renewal initiative.
