Cal-Maine's Repopulation Efforts Are Improving Egg Supplies -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
2025/10/01

1042 ET - The supply environment for eggs is improving as avian flu concerns ease, Cal-Maine executives say on a call with analysts. Capacity expansion and rebuilding efforts are supporting the egg producer's growth, after recent bouts of avian flu wiped out millions of hens. During the recent quarter, breeder flocks increased 46%, chicks hatch were up 77% and the average number of layer hens rose 10%, CFO Max Bowman says. "With respect to biosecurity, we've invested more than $80 million in equipment, procedures and training to safeguard flock health and mitigate the risk of highly pathogenic avian influenza since 2015," CEO Sherman Miller says. Shares slip 3.1%. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
