U.S. Lumber Companies Will Benefit From Canadian Mill Struggles -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
10/02

1304 ET - President Trump's tariff on lumber imports will hurt Canadian producers, but will be a boost to their American counterparts, say Truist analysts Michael Roxland and Niccolo Piccini. Many Canadian lumber producers are operating at or below cash cost. Closures or production curtailments among Canadian sawmills could lead to "a tightening of North American lumber supply/demand dynamics," pushing up prices, which are currently 8% below last year's average. That will provide a boost to companies like PotlatchDeltic, Weyerhaeuser, Rayonier and Boise Cascade.(nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
