China's commerce ministry said it would seek to safeguard its industries' rights after filing on Wednesday a complaint with the World Trade Organization over India's electric-vehicle and battery subsidies.

The commerce ministry alleged that India's EV and battery regulations violate national treatment obligations and constitute import-substitution subsidies, which are prohibited under WTO rules. These policies give Indian industries an unfair competitive advantage and harm China's interests, it said.

"China will take resolute measures to effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of its domestic industries," the ministry said, without providing further details.

The ministry also said India's economic and trade measures have raised concerns and attracted attention from other WTO members. "We urge India to faithfully adhere to its WTO commitments and correct its improper practices without delay," the Chinese commerce ministry said.

India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the government's Press Information Bureau didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
