As the third-quarter earnings season kicks off, investors will turn their focus to results from major U.S. banks, which are expected to post higher profits and set the tone for corporate earnings and the broader market outlook. JPMorgan Chase is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit, boosted by investment banking fees amid a dealmaking rebound and public listings. Separately, Goldman Sachs is forecast to post a higher third-quarter profit, as a dealmaking rebound boosts investment banking fees at the Wall Street giant. Investors will focus on executive commentary around the M&A pipeline along with plans for capital deployment. Wells Fargo is also projected to post a higher third-quarter profit, helped by a rebound in dealmaking. Lastly, Citigroup is expected to log an increase in third-quarter profit, helped by a strong performance in its investment banking arm.

From the economic side in U.S., the National Federation of Independent Business is set to release its September report of Small Business Optimism Index.

Among Federal Reserve events through the day, Chair Jerome Powell is set to speak on the economic outlook and monetary policy before the National Association for Business Economics Annual Meeting (1220/1620). Separately, Boston Fed President Susan Collins will participate in a moderated question-and-answer session before the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce (1530/1930).

The Institute of International Finance holds its annual meeting as financial leaders gather in Washington D.C. for the IMF-World Bank annual meeting (to October 17). Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman will participate in a discussion before the 2025 Institute of International Finance Annual Membership Meeting (0845/1245). Later in the day, at the same meeting, Federal Reserve Board Governor Christopher Waller is set to participate in a "Payments" discussion (1525/1925).

Johnson & Johnson will report third-quarter results before markets open. Investors will closely watch for any changes to the company's 2025 forecasts and focus will also be on the company's exposure to the Trump administration's tariff and drug pricing policies.

BlackRock is expected to post higher third-quarter revenue, lifted by strong ETF inflows and rising markets that boosted fee income, according to analysts.

Domino's Pizza is expected to post a rise in third-quarter revenue, driven by demand for its value offerings and new menu additions. Investors will look out for comments on pricing actions, consumer spending pattern and new promotional or menu initiatives for 2026.

Hester Peirce, the Republican member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission heading up the agency's new crypto task force, is expected to appear in conversation at the annual membership meeting of the Institute of International Finance.

Brazil's services sector activity is expected to have risen 0.2% in August, after gaining 0.3% in the month before. On an annual basis, services sector likely grew 2.4%. Separately, Argentina's consumer price index is forecast to have risen 2.1% in September, compared to August's 1.9% gain. A poll showed 12-month inflation is expected at 31.8% in September, easing from 33.6% in August.
