Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to visit Washington, D.C., on Friday to meet with President Trump, U.S. and European officials familiar with the plan said, in an effort to boost U.S. support for Kyiv and revive efforts to broker a peace arrangement with Russia.
Trump will meet with Zelensky after wrapping up a Middle East tour touting his diplomatic win in cementing a cease-fire in Gaza and securing the release of hostages in the strip. Even as he took his victory lap, he began setting his sights on new efforts to tackle the Russia-Ukraine war.
"I want to see this war settled," Trump told reporters as he set off for the Middle East.
The Ukrainians are pushing Trump to boost U.S. military aid and support to Kyiv as Russia steps up attacks on Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure, including requests for long-range Tomahawk missiles that could strike deep into Russian territory.
