IonQ (IONQ) said Monday its quantum chemistry simulations demonstrated the accurate computation of atomic-level forces using the quantum-classical auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo algorithm.

The company said the demonstration, conducted in collaboration with an automotive manufacturer, produced results that were "more accurate" than those obtained using classical methods.

IonQ said that computational chemistry techniques are used to predict forces arising from atomic interactions, which can help determine chemical reactivity.

According to the company, the demonstration showed that quantum computing has made a meaningful progress in solving real-world chemistry problems.

IonQ shares were up more than 4% in recent Monday premarket trading.
