Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Rise in Late Afternoon Trading

Consumer stocks rose late Friday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) adding 1.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.9%.

In corporate news, Ferrari (RACE) is selling fewer cars in the UK as it seeks to stem declining residual values, which have been affected by the departure of wealthy individuals from the country due to higher tax structures, the Financial Times reported, citing Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna. Ferrari shares rose 1.6%.

AT&T (T) said starting Dec. 1, the monthly price of all its home internet plans will rise by $5, The Verge reported Friday, citing a company notification to customers and a confirmation from a company spokesperson. AT&T shares added 0.4%.

Coca-Cola (KO) is exploring a potential $1 billion IPO of its Indian bottling arm, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, which could value the unit at about $10 billion, Bloomberg reported. Coca-Cola shares advanced 1.2%.

President Donald Trump has refiled a shorter 40-page version of his $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times (NYT), several reporters at the newspaper, and Penguin Random House. New York Times shares were up 0.8%.
