The company introduced "Design for Sustainability," a set of technical design principles intended to help hardware designers lower hardware emissions by focusing on strategies such as modularity, reuse, retrofitting, dematerialization, and extended hardware lifecycles. Meta also detailed a new methodology for tracking emissions from hardware components in its data centers, utilizing its Llama AI models to optimize emission tracking databases. In addition, Meta highlighted its support for open hardware and infrastructure standards through participation in industry collaborations, including the Open Compute Project's Open Data Center Initiative and the new Ethernet for Scale-Up Networking workstream. The company invited other organizations to adopt these strategies and frameworks to advance sustainability in the data center industry.
