Ameresco Inc. has announced the installation of a 50MW Battery Energy Storage System $(BESS)$ at Nucor's Kingman mill in Arizona, marking the largest behind-the-meter project of its kind in the state and the fourth largest in the United States. The project features 58 Tesla Megapack 2XL units and is operated under a 20-year Storage Services Agreement. Installed at a Nucor substation within the Mohave Electric Cooperative territory and operated by Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, the Ameresco-owned system stabilizes the electric load from Nucor's new arc furnace, helping reduce grid strain and support the use of renewable energy. A 25 MW solar asset is also scheduled to begin operation in 2026, further supporting Nucor's energy transition and expansion plans. GreenFront Energy Partners advised Nucor on the project's contracting and structuring.
