Boeing Wins Approval to Increase Monthly 737 Max Production Limit to 42

Boeing (BA) won approval Friday to raise its monthly production quota for 737 MAX airplanes to 42, up from a 38-jet limit the Federal Aviation Administration imposed last year, news outlets reported.

The cap was imposed amid safety worries following the January 2024 mid-air blowout of a door plug on a 737 MAX that raised concerns about airplane quality and production standards.

But Reuters cited the FAA as now saying that its safety inspectors "conducted extensive reviews of Boeing's production lines to ensure that this small production rate increase will be done safely."

Reuters cited unnamed sources as saying that Boeing is ready to begin boosting production immediately.

Boeing said that it "has followed a disciplined rate readiness process guided by our safety management system and tracked by key performance indicators that were agreed upon with the FAA."

The FAA did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of Boeing were up 1.5% in Monday's premarket activity.
