Chinese hotel operators are expanding into Southeast Asia to brace for growth in Chinese travel in the region, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday.
Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels (SHA:600754) partnered with Malaysia-based Riyaz International in August to open new hotels in Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines by 2030, the report said.
Jin Jiang is looking to open 180 locations in those countries.
H World (HKG:1179) will also open a branch of its midscale Ji hotels in Malaysia in 2026, according to the report.
Visitors to Southeast Asia from China grew 56% from the previous decade, Nikkei said, citing the ASEAN Secretariat. Tourist arrivals from other locations increased 16% from the prior decade.
