Iridium Communications Inc. has been selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for an award under the Complementary Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (CPNT) Action Plan Rapid Phase Award II. The funding supports a broad deployment of Iridium's PNT services to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure, including 5G wireless networks. As part of this initiative, Iridium is working with T-Mobile to install its PNT receivers at 90 additional live 5G sites across the United States, aiming to strengthen network reliability and protect against GPS disruptions. The award is part of a broader effort by the DOT to evaluate commercially available CPNT technologies, and both Iridium and T-Mobile are involved in the project.
