JetBlue Airways on Tuesday said its fuel costs fell even as consumption was unchanged from the same period of last year.

The carrier said it spent $539 million on fuel in the quarter, 7.6% below what it did in 3Q 2024.

The decline came even as the company's fuel demand was nearly unchanged from the year-ago period. JetBlue said it consumed 217 million gallons of fuel in the quarter, just 0.03% higher than what it burned in 3Q 2024.

The company said it paid an average of $2.49/gal in the quarter, 6.8% lower than in the same period of last year.

The company's 3Q fuel cost per available seat mile, or CASM, a measurement of how much it spent on fuel per each seat flown one mile, was 3.19cts, down 8.4% decline from a year earlier.

The company estimated its 4Q fuel costs will range from $2.33 to $2.48/gal.

"We are optimistic the demand environment will continue to improve through the end of the year," company President Marty St. George said. "Peaks are expected to remain strong while troughs remain challenging, and we continue to expect relatively stronger demand for our premium offerings versus core."
