Fortescue Ltd. announced the arrival of its Green Pioneer vessel in Belém, Brazil, ahead of COP30. The 75-metre ship, which has visited cities across three continents this year, aims to demonstrate the viability of ammonia as a marine fuel. Fortescue highlighted that operational data from the Green Pioneer has contributed to the development of guidelines for using ammonia as fuel. The company is also developing the Pecém Project in Ceará, described as Brazil's most advanced green hydrogen and ammonia initiative. Fortescue stated its intention to collaborate with governments, industry partners, and international institutions to support the decarbonisation of shipping and the broader energy transition in Brazil.
