Unum Group (UNM) reported Q3 adjusted operating income late Monday of $2.09 per diluted share, down from $2.13 a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet expected $2.15.

Revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $3.38 billion, up from $3.22 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected $3.33 billion.

The company said lower alternative investment income and the ongoing impacts from the annual assumption review reduced Q3 after-tax adjusted operating earnings by $0.10 per share, and "we expect a comparable effect in the fourth quarter."

Analysts polled by FactSet expect $2.21 in Q4 operating EPS.

Shares of the company traded 1.7% lower in after-hours activity.
