Marquee venture-capital firm Sequoia Capital is replacing its top leader, Roelof Botha, in one of the biggest shake-ups in the world of Silicon Valley investing.

Botha handed the reins to longtime Sequoia investors Alfred Lin and Pat Grady, whom he referred to in a letter on social media as the firm's "new stewards." Botha ascended to the role of managing partner in 2022. He joined the firm after helping take PayPal public in 2002 as its finance chief.

Sequoia, famous for its early investments in Apple and Alphabet's Google, has been through a bumpy stretch, including the departure of its chief operating officer earlier this year after a public feud over politics with a Sequoia partner, Shaun Maguire.
