Auto Parts Retailers to Benefit from Worsening Vehicle Affordability -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1338 ET - Higher new and used car prices are causing consumers to opt for fixing their cars rather than getting new ones, boosting auto parts retailers, according to Oppenheimer in a report. That's likely to continue with worsening vehicle affordability a seemingly irreversible trend leading people to drive older cars, say analysts Brian Nagel and Andrew Chasanoff. "Auto retailers are noting tendencies for more traditional new car buyers to shift to the used car market and for typical buyers of pre-owned cars to increasingly seek older vehicles," the analysts say. "Auto parts manufacturers and retailers highlight lacking vehicle affordability as a key near- and longer-term driver of outsized parts demand." (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
