Bonds in 15-20-Year Segment Less Popular Among Investors -- Market Talk

0638 GMT - Germany will tap Bunds maturing in 2041 and 2044, with the 15-20-year segment being less popular among investors and requiring extra yield premium to attract them, says Danske Bank's Jens Naervig Pedersen in a note. "This is kind of the 'lost child' on the yield curve," the director for FX and rates strategy says. There is no natural buyer for this segment as it is typically too long for bank treasuries and central banks, and traditionally too short for life insurance companies and pension funds, he says. The segment has to give an extra yield premium to attract investors, as was the case with the solid bid-to-cover in the previous auctions of the May 2041 Bund, he says. "We expect a similar demand at today's auction." (emese.bartha@wsj.com)
