0913 ET - Consumers may be feeling pressure from tariff-induced price hikes, but they are still spending where they see good value. Two cases in point are Ralph Lauren and Coach parent Tapestry. Both companies reported strong sales and earnings growth for their latest quarters. The brands are positioned as more affordable compared to European luxury houses. Coach's sweet spot is $200 to $500 for handbags, well below the thousands of dollars that brands like Louis Vuitton and Hermes charge for their satchels. Additionally, Coach and Ralph Lauren have worked hard at appealing to coveted Gen Z shoppers by combining a mix of nostalgia with new on-trend products. (suzanne.kapner@wsj.com)
