Telefonica and Canal+ said they won exclusive rights to show UEFA soccer competitions in their respective domestic markets, retaining prized live-sports properties including the top club tournament in Europe for the four seasons through 2031.

Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica said it would pay 1.46 billion euros ($1.68 billion) for the exclusive media rights for soccer competitions including the UEFA Champions League in Spain from the 2027-28 season to the 2030-31 season, or 366 million euros a season.

Telefonica said this was a provisional award to give all media rights to the main European soccer competitions for residential customers. The company expects to formalize the deal in the coming days.

French media company Canal+ separately said it renewed all exclusive rights to UEFA club competitions in France for the four-season period.

Meanwhile, Comcast's Sky said it won rights to exclusively broadcast in the U.K. every game for UEFA's second and third-tier continental competitions--the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.

Sky and Canal+ didn't disclose financial details.
