Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 2.6%.
US equity indexes rose after midday Monday as strong gains in high-growth sectors boosted risk sentiment amid a continuing increase in the odds for a December interest-rate cut.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each lost about 0.3%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 2.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also moved higher.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 4%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 4.5%.
Financial
The Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) advanced 0.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), fell 0.6%.
Commodities
Crude oil was 0.8% higher, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.9%. Natural gas fell 1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) declined 1.4%.
Gold on Comex added 0.4%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.7%. Silver gained 0.7%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 1.5%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.9%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also moved lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 1.8%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was up 0.1%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.4%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.7%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also higher; iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) climbed 1.1%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) climbed 0.5%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher as well.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) was up 0.6%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) added 4.1%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) climbed 7%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) was 3.5% higher.
