Qantas Airways' (ASX:QAN) recent staff restructuring was motivated by rising costs and comes as the airline seeks to be more competitive without increasing airfares, The Australian reported Tuesday, citing Qantas International Chief Executive Cam Wallace.
The airline is expected to make a significant number of roles redundant at its corporate office after the review to improve efficiency, Wallace reportedly said.
"Customers aren't prepared to pay a lot more for air tickets so we've always got to stare into our cost base, use automation, use digitalisation and say 'how can we continue to be efficient?'" Wallace said, as quoted by The Australian.
