Amazon.com (AMZN) drivers at the company's DBK1 facility in the Woodside neighborhood of Queens, New York, have formed a union with Teamsters Local 804, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said Tuesday.
More than 200 workers marched on management Tuesday morning to deliver the news and demand a union contract.
Following the action, the Teamsters demanded New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams hold a hearing on the Delivery Protection Act. The legislation would require delivery companies to directly employ their workers, ending the current Delivery Service Partner model and putting responsibility for worker safety directly on the companies.
Amazon did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
