International Business Machines (IBM) and Pearson (PSO) said Thursday that they have partnered to create personalized AI-driven learning products for businesses, public organizations, and educational institutions.

The companies said the partnership plans to tackle the skills mismatches and inefficient career transitions, which Pearson estimates cost the US economy $1.1 trillion annually in lost earnings.

The AI-powered learning tool would be built using watsonx Orchestrate and watsonx Governance, and will be available globally, the companies said.

IBM will assist Pearson in creating a custom AI-powered learning platform that blends human expertise with AI assistants to improve workflows, productivity, and decision-making, the companies said, adding that the partnership will also support IBM's 270,000 employees and customers by incorporating Pearson's enterprise learning tools, including Credly for digital credentials, Faethm for workforce planning, and Pearson Professional Assessments for global certification exams.

Additionally, the companies said they plan to develop tools to verify AI agent capabilities, ensuring reliable and responsible deployment in organizations.
