Nippon Steel Plans to Invest About $39 Billion Over Next Five Years

Nippon Steel plans to invest about $39 billion over the next five years to boost earnings at home and abroad as part of its new midterm business plan.

The Japanese steelmaker said Friday that it planned to make capital and business investments totaling 6 trillion yen, equivalent to $38.56 billion, over the next five years. The sum includes a planned investment of about $11 billion in U.S. Steel by the end of 2028.

Nippon Steel also said it would start construction of an integrated steel works in southern India.
