Chongqing Changan Automobile (SHE:000625) and BAIC Motor (HKG:1958) secured China's first Level-3 autonomous driving vehicle permits, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Changan's model can handle single-lane driving at up to 50 kilometers per hour in congestion on select routes in Chongqing, while Arcfox's sedan is cleared for up to 80 kph on designated roads in Beijing.
Autonomous driving levels range from the lowest Level-0 to the highest Level-5, with Level-3 allowing vehicles to perform automated dynamic driving tasks while requiring a human driver to take control when requested.
