USITC Opens Investigation Into Samsung, Other Health Tech Firms After Oura Health Complaint

The U.S. International Trade Commission opened an investigation into several manufacturers of smart wearable devices, including Samsung Electronics, after Oura Health accused the companies of patent infringement.

Oura Health, the maker of the wearable fitness technology Oura Ring, alleged that the companies violated the Tariff Act by importing products into the U.S. that infringed on the company's patents.

The Finnish company requested that the USITC issue a limited exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order.

The case will now go before one of the USITC's administrative law judges, who will hold an evidentiary hearing and make an initial determination of whether the companies violated the law.

Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
