New Jersey American Water has signed an agreement to acquire the Hopewell Borough water system for $6.4 million, following a November 2025 referendum in which 58% of Hopewell voters approved the sale. The water system serves more than 880 customer connections. Upon completion of the acquisition, which is anticipated in the first half of 2026, New Jersey American Water plans to invest $7 million in infrastructure improvements over the first five years of ownership. The company will also conduct a comprehensive analysis of the system to identify additional improvements, aiming to modernize water infrastructure, ensure safe and reliable service, and reduce water rates for residents.
