Analysts Expect 46 Billion-Cubic-Foot Decline in U.S. Natural Gas Inventories

U.S. natural gas inventories likely saw a below-average withdrawal last week amid a warmup in the weather after three straight weeks of triple-digit declines, according to a survey by The Wall Street Journal.

Gas in underground storage is expected to have fallen by 46 billion cubic feet to 3,367 Bcf in the week ended Dec. 26, according to the average estimate of seven analysts, brokers and traders. Estimates range from a draw of 38 Bcf to a drop of 56 Bcf.

The expected decline is smaller than the five-year average withdrawal for the week of 120 Bcf, and would put storage 49 Bcf above the 2020-2024 average, compared with a 24 Bcf deficit the week before.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to report natural gas storage on Wednesday at 12 p.m. EST, a day early because of the New Year's holiday on Thursday.
