Austal (ASX:ASB) received notice that State Street and its affiliated entities became a substantial holder of the company on Dec. 30, according to a Friday filing with the Australian bourse.

State Street now owns 21.1 million shares in the company, representing 5.01% of the issued shares, the filing said.

Austal's shares were up 1% in recent Friday trade.
