Analysts Expect 120 Billion-Cubic-Foot Withdrawal in U.S. Natural Gas Inventories

U.S. natural gas inventories likely saw a triple-digit withdrawal last week as a cold snap to end December and start January lifted heating demand from the week before.

Natural gas in underground storage is expected to have fallen by 120 billion cubic feet to 3,255 Bcf in the week ended Jan. 2, according to the average estimate of 11 analysts, brokers and traders surveyed by the Wall Street Journal. Estimates range from a draw of 90 Bcf to a draw of 134 Bcf.

The expected withdrawal would leave inventories 30 Bcf above the five-year average for the week, compared with a surplus of 58 Bcf the week before.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release the weekly storage data on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EST.
