Canadian Pacific Kansas City said it would buy an additional 30 Tier 4 locomotives from Progress Rail this year as part of its commitment to invest $800 million in American businesses.

The Canadian railway, which links Mexico, the U.S., and Canada, said Wednesday that the locomotive order is part of its ongoing effort to renew its fleet.

The locomotives from Progress Rail, which will be built in Muncie, Ind., are expected to be delivered in the second half of the year. They are part of a broader order for 65 Tier 4 locomotives from Progress Rail.

"Our purchase of additional new Tier 4 locomotives, proudly made in the USA, continues CPKC's commitment to renew our locomotive fleet through a more than $800 million investment in American manufacturing capacity," CPKC Chief Operating Officer Mark Redd said.

The company had previously purchased 100 Tier 4 locomotives built by Wabtec in Texas. It said it expects delivery of 70 more units from Wabtec this year, beginning with two this month.
