RBA's Early Switch to Hikes Shouldn't Surprise -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

0437 GMT - The Reserve Bank of Australia will take some political heat if it raises interest rates next week, with some already claiming it would be an embarrassing U-turn for the central bank, which lowered the official cash rate three times in 2025. Still, keen observers will understand that the RBA wasn't dealing with a broken economy when it started to ease last year. Instead, the job market was pretty resilient, and the economy was in an upswing. Given that backdrop, it was never going to be the case that cuts would be deep or that there was going to be an extended pause before tightening was required.
