U.S. Natural Gas Extends Gains on Winter Storm -- Market Talk

0842 ET - U.S. natural gas futures test new three-year highs as winter storm Fern raised demand and shut in substantial amounts of production. Loss of output due to wells freezing was offset in part by a drop in LNG exports. Nymex gas for February, which expires midweek, is up 11% at $5.880/mmBtu after reaching $6.293 overnight. The March contract is 4.1% higher at $3.756/mmBtu. "Impacts so far from the Arctic blast appear to be as expected and with no major surprises," NatGasWeather.com says in a note. But with frigid temperatures seen extending through this week and into February, "we are interested in if soon-to-be front month March'26 contracts are fair priced or underpriced," the forecaster adds.(anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
