New Zealand Shares End Lower Despite Rise in Asian Indexes; Henderson Far East Income Reports Net Asset Value

New Zealand shares closed lower on Wednesday despite a rise in most Asian indexes following a higher close on Wall Street on Tuesday.

The S&P/NZX 50 Index fell 0.7% or 98 points to close at 13,412.87.

On Tuesday, the S&P 500 rose 0.4%, the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.9%, and the Dow Jones closed 0.8% lower.

In domestic news, the seasonally adjusted number of filled jobs across New Zealand industries remained flat month on month at 2.4 million in December 2025, following a 0.5% increase in the previous month, data from Stats NZ showed.

Also, the total business count across New Zealand rose to 598,608 in December 2025 from 591,213 in November 2025, according to data from Stats NZ.

In corporate news, Henderson Far East Income's (NZE:HFL) unaudited net asset value, including current financial year revenue items, was 2.42 pounds sterling per share as of Monday.

Bankers Investment Trust's (NZE:BIT) unaudited net asset value per share was 1.415 pounds sterling apiece as of Monday.
