Tech stocks were lower late Thursday afternoon, with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dropping 2.3% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) falling 1.6%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor index shed 0.7%.
In corporate news, Apple (AAPL) has acquired Q.ai, an Israeli start-up with technology that can analyze facial expressions, for almost $2 billion, the Financial Times reported. Apple shares added 0.7%.
