Singapore's Straits Times Index Could Reach 6500 in Bull Scenario -- Market Talk

0549 GMT - Singapore's benchmark FTSE Straits Times Index could reach 6500 points in a bull scenario, say J.P. Morgan Securities analysts in a note. The STI has continued to hit fresh highs each week, driven by upbeat earnings outlooks and high dividends, they say. A strong Singapore dollar and the city-state's status as a safe haven amid global geopolitical uncertainties also serve as drivers. The record rally could extend given development of Singapore corporates' value-unlock initiatives, which could enhance return on equity and flows, they say. Global funds also likely still have light positions in Singapore stocks, they add. The STI is up 0.9% at 4937.91 after notching a fresh intraday high of 4944.06. (megan.cheah@wsj.com)
